The United Nations (UN) International Day of Rural Women recognises that ‘rural women are key to achieving the transformational economic, environmental and social changes required for sustainable development.’
And although the UN’s focus today is on rural and agricultural development, their view that ’empowering women impacts not only on the well-being of individuals, families and communities, but also on overall economic productivity’ is very much in line with my own thinking and my business message.
I believe women’s global impact goes beyond improving worldwide productivity. That women bring love to the world, advocate peace, and are positive agents for good and for change. And the larger their financial resources the bigger their global impact – you only have to look at women like Oprah Winfrey and Sheryl Sandberg to see the evidence of this.
My favourite quote has long been Gandhi’s ‘Be the change you wish to see in the world’ because it mirrors my belief that the only place to start is with yourself. To start to live the life you want RIGHT NOW, connecting to the feelings you want to feel, BEING the person you want to become, and in this way demonstrating to others how to fully embrace life, so that you’re happier, love your work, have more fun and make more of a difference.
I call this being the Star Dancer in your life/dance show. Because when you can do this for yourself, you empower and inspire others (your audience) to do for themselves too – one dance, one person at a time – each person creating their own ripples of change in the world.
And it’s this bigger difference, and the fact that you can multiply it massively with greater financial resources, that makes me want shout from the rooftops to all business women in my world
‘Stop treating your business as an expensive hobby, and start to build it in a way that will also nourish and support you and your family financially. Build it so that you can impact even more people and make the BIG difference you really want to make in this world.’
So I’m asking you today……..
- What impact do YOU want to make in the world?
- What change do YOU wish to see?
And on this International Day of Rural Women I’m challenging you to become the Star dancer you really are – to take your position centre stage and in your spotlight, because each and every one of us can Be and Do more than we currently think is possible – if we can only release the fear and the doubt, and ‘own’ our individual and collective power – together we really can change the world.
NOW is the time. Let’s do this together – not only rural women, but all business women. Are you with me? I’d love to know
(P.S. If you’re based in rural Northumberland or County Durham in North East England and you want support to grow your business you may be eligibile for 100% funding support – email firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.)
